Educational Leadership

Lead Tours and Educate Visitors about Our National Forest

Share Your Knowledge—Lead Educational Tours in the White River National Forest

We are seeking knowledgeable, enthusiastic volunteers to lead educational experiences such as Hike with a Ranger, Ski with a Ranger, and guided hikes/tours. These programs connect visitors and locals with the forest’s natural history, wildlife, ecology, and stewardship needs, fostering a deeper appreciation for our public lands.

Do you have specialized knowledge in a particular field—wildlife, botany, geology, history, or another area—and eager to share your passion with others? We would love to connect with you about your interest in leading educational tours!

Got Questions? We’ve got Answers!

Lead hikes, walks, or tours that focus on sharing information about local ecology, history, and stewardship of the White River National Forest.

Our Ski with a Ranger and Hike with a Ranger programs are always led by two volunteer leaders for safety and shared storytelling. Other educational tours can be led by either an individual or a pair—we welcome dynamic duos as well as confident solo leaders.

While there isn’t a formal uniform, we encourage Tour Leaders to wear their FDRD volunteer shirt or other branded clothing so participants can easily recognize you as part of our team. If you don’t have one, we’ll provide it. Comfortable outdoor attire and sturdy shoes are also recommended.
